Annual Juried Members' Exhibition
What defines a group when significant measures of space and time separate its members?
Call for Submissions // Application Deadline: August 3, 2018
Trap\door will be presenting a juried exhibition of members’ work throughout the fall of 2018. The single group exhibition will follow an unconventional format consisting of “micro-shows” held in various venues at various times over the, yet to be determined, duration of the exhibition.* This experimental curatorial strategy allows us to develop an exhibition scheme that encompasses a wide-range of artistic practices and media while also being a flexible method of working with artists to present their work.
Artists are invited to submit work in any media to be considered for the exhibition. Visual, sculptural, time-based, digital, performance and socially oriented work is all welcome. We also encourage proposals for new, experimental or untested works and projects.
There are no thematic parameters, but underlying the formal premise of the exhibition is a question of what defines a group when significant measures of space and time separate its members. What direct or indirect associations must exist between independent constituents to be identified as a group? How much contact between elements is necessary to sustain a cohesive form? How does the group transform as contact diminishes or intensifies? What meanings are created by presenting artworks in close proximity and what meaning is possible when that distance is stretched?
We are committed to developing the exhibition on the basis of the diversity of work and practices submitted. Applicants must be Trap\door members, but you can get a membership when your submit your application.
*The venues and total duration will be determined through the process of organizing the exhibition and with the artists once projects have been selected by the jury. The exhibition is slated to begin in late September.
Trap\door pays artists professional exhibition fees in accordance with CARFAC fee schedule.
