Your messy thinking, dreaming, sharing, working, learning, growing, and making.

Call for Participants

If you are a Lethbridge artist looking for a more informal, yet intellectually and artistically challenging place to develop your practice on a regular basis, there is good news. Trap\door is pleased to announce the creation of \group, a loosely organized participatory artist project focused on issues in contemporary art and culture by engaging with text, media, and artistic activity. Basically, it’s a reading and working group envisioned as a generative social framework for critically thinking through artistic practice together. It will unfold over several months with meetings biweekly.

Each meeting will be a little bit different; the activities will evolve over the course of the program and will be shaped by the input and interests of individual participants. Framed as both an extension of each member’s diverse practice and an aggregate of their overlap, sessions may include, but are not limited to, close readings of texts, discussions of significant events in culture or politics, the presentations of newly created artwork, skill-sharing workshops, going for walks, or whatever.

\group is motivated by the idea that our collective capacities--our efforts and attempts--contribute to new forms of social and creative practice. So, the work of \group prioritizes your experience, your ways of knowing, and your work as a way of departing from conventional forms of learning, knowledge, and artistic practice.

Participants are encouraged to come with generosity and curiosity. Everyone is welcome. \group is a non-competitive, inclusive program that operates with principles of non-discrimination and openness.

The \group’s work will be compiled into a printed anthology as a form of documentation and re-presentation.

We are looking for artists who are excited by the prospect of encountering different perspectives, challenging each other, and working together. If you would like to participate please email trapdoorlethbridge@gmail.com.

There is no application process; anyone who wants to take part can, but please confirm your interest by sending a very short artist bio, a brief description of your work and one or two questions or topics that you’re interested in addressing with the \group.

Please let us know by July 1, 2018.
